Pixie Cares

At Pixie, we understand the importance of being socially responsible. We have spent time and money ensuring the integration of responsible entrepreneurship into practice.

We have developed a Corporate Social Responsibility strategy that will take some time to implement in its entirety. We are however, confident that we have taken the important first steps to ensuring we become a responsible retailer that others aspire to.

Our ethical statement has been divided into 5 elements, all of which are equally important to us.

Pixie Cares about Children

At Pixie, we believe that clothes should be made ‘for’ children and not ‘by’ children.
We have a play area in the store to amuse children whilst Grown-Ups are browsing. We frequently collect donations on behalf of local children’s hospice, Francis House.
At Pixie, we always push ourselves to do more. We have set ourselves a target to introduce an Eco-Pixies club and we are using our technical knowledge to source fabrics and garments that assist children with special needs.

Pixie Cares about Clothes

At Pixie we work closely with suppliers such as Imps & Elfs and Mini A Ture to ensure the ethical sourcing of products and fair pricing. We pride ourselves on our honest and transparent purchasing policy. We would like to share more information with you, so we are looking at ways in which we can improve our labelling and packaging so you can be assured of the ethical sourcing and quality of each product.

Pixie Cares about The Environment

Pixie has also taken actions to protect the natural environment. We encourage energy and water conservation and where possible source sustainable products. We currently recycle our cardboard however we are aiming to recycle 100% of all our packaging, use recycled paper for all printed materials and introduce more 100% sustainable products to our range. We sell high-quality garments that should last for years, long after children have out-grown them. For this reason, we actively encourage people to pass on and recycle anything they have bought from Pixie. For treasured pieces that are too precious to ever give away: preserve them as an heirloom or keep them to bring a smile to your face at a later date.

Pixie Cares about Our People

Our people are incredibly important to us. We want to attract and retain the right team members so we try and make Pixie a really great place to be. We offer a safe and relaxed working environment, encourage everyone to throw their ideas into that hat, and promote professional growth. We’d like to do more work here though and formalise development plans for staff members, including supporting staff through paid volunteer work. We are also working on bringing to life our Pixie Values which we hope will differentiate us from the crowd.

Pixie Cares about You

Pixie is really proud to support the local community. We have recently co-founded a Social-Networking group called Inner Glo, specifically aimed at helping Mums to network and optimise their work/life balance.
We also make regular donations to local charities such as Francis House Children’s Hospice and The Genesis Appeal.
We have recently sourced a smart, ethically-produced uniform for a local school.
At Pixie we support enterprise and offer help and advise to local start-ups where possible. We also use local suppliers and actively encourage diversity. Examples of recently formed companies that Pixie has been happy to support are Toffee Moon and My Little Shopping Bag.

Inner Glo Launch Party

Inner Glo is a glamorous new social-networking event for Mums in Manchester and Cheshire

Last Thursday Pixie hosted a summer launch party for this brand-new event, aimed at Mums who want to hold on to or regain their ‘Inner Glo’.

Inclement July weather didn’t dampen the spirits of 40-50 Mums, who braced the Manchester drizzle, to enjoy an evening of pampering and re-styling by holistic therapists, hairdressers and make-up artists. Designer beachwear label Rosemary Twang (as featured in The Sunday Times Style supplement) helped get everyone in the mood for the beach this summer, with gorgeous Kaftans and jewelled sandals.

Inner Glo is an excuse to make new business contacts, learn a new skill, meet interesting people, dress up and have fun! Inner Glo members will be able to access a range of member benefits and make use of an exclusive network of trusted partners.

Forthcoming events include career coaching for Mums, wellbeing sessions and a Burlesque inspired Christmas Party.

Queen of Shops

Mary Queen of Shops (9.00pm on BBC2) is compulsive viewing. Every week, as I watch Mary Portas turnaround the fortunes of failing businesses, I am reminded why I love retail.
Retail is hard work, involves unsociable hours and can be unpredictable. It is also challenging, creative, fun, and hugely rewarding, especially when you get positive feedback (as we frequently do). There is a real buzz when someone leaves the shop as a satisfied customer, who has enjoyed every minute of their experience.
Tonight Portas talked about engaging with the customer. At Pixie we are in the highly privileged position of engaging with the children too!

Sizzling Summer Sale at Pixie

It is a bit crazy this fashion business, just as the sun comes out, we start clearing the decks for some fab new clothes for Autumn/Winter.
We have plunged the depths of our stock room to uncover lots of hidden Pixie treasures. It is definitely worth popping in for a rummage.

Glamour in the City

We love a bit of glamour at Pixie and we know our customers do too. We are still reeling from the sparkling evening we spent with our customers and Fiona and Penny from Boodles, and this week we were pictured next to Peter Hook , Henry Holland and Jackson Scott in Drapers magazine - the Fashion Industry bible. We made the gossip pages for party we held to celebrate the launch of our new website.

I keep picking up pieces from I Love Gorgeous and lamenting the fact that they only do kiddie sizes. We have received a few new pieces this week, and even if they don't do adult sizes, at least our children can look gorgeous!

A fabulous bag adds a touch of glamour to any outfit and Storksak's beautiful Elizabeth Bag oozes style from every cleverly hidden compartment.

Glamorous Events...
Finally, keep an eye on the website and in the Blog for details of some very glamorous events coming up for mums and mums to be. We are working closely with Glo Family and The Eclectic Hotel Collection to bring you regular interesting, informative and stylish events, in luxurious surroundings. If you have any pregnant friends, ask them to email us and we will keep them informed about what is happening and when.

Super Cool Pixies

We had a great afternoon at Baby Loves Disco in Manchester last weekend. Fashion conscious kids boogied the afternoon away and I couldn't help spotting a few Dandy Star T-Shirts mixed with Levi's and Converse trainers. I am loving this look as it is super cool, cute and totally wearable! A little girl came into the shop last week in a stripey dress, leggings, Converse and a dinky denim jacket by Levi's. Denim jackets are making a big fashion comeback, it is great to see that Pixie kids are already showing they are a step ahead of the rest!

New Pixie Website!

15th April 2008

Now the brand new Pixie website is up and running, we are looking forward to sharing our passion for clothes and our sense of fun with you. We have been searching the globe for fab products that you and your children will love and that will conjure up memories through the associations they have with growing up. Mini Converse trainers, tiny Levi's and first wellies become lasting keepsakes and are too precious to part with. Red Converse Boots have become hugely popular as they are sported by David Tennant in Dr Who. We still have a few pairs left but be quick...they are selling like hot cup-cakes!

This week we have come across two two very different, but very exciting websites that could enhance the lives of you and your family, and provide hours of fun!

Baby Loves is a monthly afternoon dance party for parents and their children from 6mths - 7yrs. The fun spills out from all corners of the coolest club in town: real DJ's playing real music, bubble machines, egg shakers, dance scarves, chill out area, face painting, nappy changing stations, a full spread of healthy snacks, juice boxes and LOTS of dancing. But at its core Baby Loves Disco is a community event that brings kids together with kids and parents together with parents guaranteed to be the best time you've had at a kid's event.....!
